Follow this guide to set up your replacement receiver.
Unpack the new receiver
Unpack the contents of the box. You will need the box and packaging material to return the old receiver.
Swap the old and new receivers
If you can, set the new receiver on top of the old one and transfer the cables one at a time.
Otherwise, carefully note the labels on the old receiver where each cable is connected before disconnecting the cables.
Connect receiver-to-wall wiring
Screw the coax cables into the ports labeled Satellite In and Home Distribution. Follow the cables to the wall, ensuring all connections are hand-tight.
Connect receiver-to-TV wiring
Different video cable types are shown below. Connect your video cable to the back of the receiver and make sure it is connected tightly at the TV as well.
Connect the remote antenna
Unscrew the remote antenna from the old receiver and connect it to the new receiver
Power on the receiver
Plug the electrical cord of the receiver into an electrical outlet.
Use the Power button on the front of the receiver to power it on.
Access System Info
Press the SYSTEM INFO button on the front panel of your DISH receiver.
If your receiver does not have a SYSTEM INFO button, turn the receiver off using the POWER button, then press the CHANNEL UP button while the receiver is turned off.
Program the remote
On your DISH remote, press the SAT button then the Record button. A number will appear on the TV screen in the box to the right.
Get the remote for the secondary TV
This receiver is designed to run two TVs. If you have a secondary TV running off this receiver, get the remote from that room and bring it back to the room where you are setting up the new receiver.
If you don't have a secondary TV, skip to step 14.
Program the secondary remote
On your secondary DISH remote, press the SAT button then the Record button. A number will appear on the TV screen in the box to the right.
Now put the secondary remote back in the room with the secondary TV, then continue setting up the new receiver.
Use the primary DISH remote to select the Done button at the bottom of the screen.
Is there a picture or DISH message on the secondary TV?
If your secondary TV has a picture or DISH message on the screen, skip to step 14; otherwise, continue with the next step.
Access Modulator Setup
On the DISH remote, press MENU. On the TV screen, select System Setup, then Installation, then Modulator Setup.
Change TV2 Out setting
On the Modulator Setup screen on the right-hand side under "TV2 Out", select Cable, then select the Done button on the right. If you see a picture or DISH message on the secondary TV, then continue with the next step.
If you are unable to get a picture or DISH message on the secondary TV, please contact us.
Access Installation Summary
On the DISH remote, press MENU. On the TV screen, select System Setup, then Installation, then Point Dish. On the right side of the screen, select Check Switch.
Run a Check Switch Test
Select the Test button on the bottom of the screen. This test may take up to 5 minutes. When the test is complete, select the Done button at the bottom of the screen.
Wait for signal lock
At the bottom of the screen the signal bar will turn green. When the word "Locked" appears under the signal bar, select the Done button.

Let the software download
The receiver will download software and program its memory, restarting in the process. It will automatically proceed to the next step on its own (may take 20 minutes).
If the receiver does not go to the next step after 20 minutes, contact us.
Activate your new receiver
You may activate the receiver by logging into your account at mydish.com/equipment or by contacting us.
Let the receiver acquire signal
The receiver may take up to 5 minutes to acquire signal.
Let the program guide download
The program guide may take up to 10 minutes to download.
Return your old receiver
If DISH informed you that your old receiver does not need to be returned, you may recycle it instead.
Remove any devices or adapters from the old receiver and connect them to the new receiver.
Place the foam around the old receiver.
Place the foam-covered receiver into the cardboard box.
Tape the flaps of the box down.
Remove the original shipping label from the box; the return label is on the other side.
Place the return label where the original label was previously.
