Accessibility Settings

DISH provides a full suite of accessibility settings on our Hopper, Wally, and Joey receivers.

The Hopper and Wired Joey 1.0 have Closed Captioning and Bluetooth Audio (with an adapter) only.

Audio Description

Audio Description, also referred to as video description, described video, or Secondary Audio Programming, allows programs with narrative tracks to play when available. This feature is available on all DISH receivers.

Audio Description is audio-narrated descriptions of a program’s key visual elements. These descriptions are inserted into natural pauses in the program’s dialogue. Audio Description makes TV programming more accessible to individuals who are blind or visually impaired.

  1. Press the RED color button or the Options button two times, depending on your remote

Screen Magnification

Magnification enlarges the size of text presented on the screen to help you read the Guide or menus.

  1. Press the RED color button or the Options button two times, depending on your remote

  2. Select Magnification to enable or disable the setting. The screen will zoom in when the setting is enabled.

Text to Speech

The Text to Speech setting provides an audible readout of the Guide and menus when enabled.

  1. Press the RED color button or the Options button two times, depending on your remote

Closed Captioning

Closed Captioning provides on-screen text of the audio within a program when enabled.

Bluetooth Audio

Bluetooth Audio feature allows you to sync Bluetooth devices like headphones, hearing aids, and soundbars for a clearer and easy listening experience.

You can pair up to five devices, but only two can be actively used at the same time.

Wally and Joey receivers need a Bluetooth Adapter to use this feature. You can order the adapter online.

  1. If applicable, plug the Bluetooth Adapter into the Wally or Joey's USB port
  2. Press the MENU button once or the HOME button twice, depending on your remote

  3. Select Settings

  4. Select Bluetooth Audio

  5. Select Bluetooth Pairing to turn pairing on

  6. Turn on your Bluetooth device and make sure it is ready for pairing (see the device's manual for pairing instructions)
  7. Select Find Devices. The receiver will search for available Bluetooth devices.

  8. Select the device you want to pair with the receiver, then select Pair.

    If you want to remove a device, just select Disconnect/Unpair at this step.
  9. If the device requires a password, use the remote control's number pad to enter it and select OK
