How it Works.
The Tailgater® Portable Satellite Antenna is like a TV valet – it brings you service when you need it. Connect the Tailgater® to a compatible DISH receiver and start watching TV wherever you are – in the parking lot of the big game, on a camping trip, or picnicking by a stream. Enjoy the same English or DishLATINO® programming packages you enjoy at home when you're on the go - just add the tailgater to your existing account. Some restrictions may apply.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS.
I only want to use my Tailgater® for a few months a year. Do I have to subscribe to TV programming all year?
No! With DISH Pay-As-You-Go, you pay only for the months you use and can start and stop service without penalty. To restart service, simply call 1-855-318-3133 or log into your mydish.com account.
I'm already a DISH customer at my home residence. Can I add Tailgater® to my existing account?
Yes, you can add the Tailgater® to your existing account and watch the same programming you enjoy at home in the great outdoors*! Purchase the Tailgater® and compatible DISH receiver, and then add the receiver to your existing account by calling 1-855-318-3133. A $7/mo outlet fee may apply.
Note: Some channels, including international programming, RTN, local channels and Regional Sports Networks, are sometimes not available, depending on your location. Call for more information. Bluefield, WV, Lake Charles, LA, Columbia, MS, Springfield, MA, and Providence, RI markets will not be able to receive SD or HD channels with a Tailgater®.
Can I have a Hopper and a ViP 211k receiver on one account?
Yes, you can enjoy the Hopper Whole-Home HD DVR at home and still have a ViP 211k activated on the same account for your Tailgater®.
I am already a DISH customer and have an HD Solo Receiver at home. Will that work with my Tailgater®?
Yes, the following receiver models can be used with the Tailgater if activated on your home account: ViP® 211k, ViP 211 and 411.
How do you power the Tailgater®? Can I run my Tailgater® antenna, DISH receiver, and TV from my vehicle?
The Tailgater® draws power from the receiver through the coax cable. The receiver requires 110 V AC power source. You will need a power inverter to power the Tailgater®, receiver and TV from your vehicle's DC power supply (120 V AC power outlet required). Note if your TV is rated greater than 100 watts, it may require direct connection to the vehicle battery. If you are watching TV from your vehicle for more than a few hours, periodically run your vehicle to maintain battery life. Note, starting your vehicle may temporarily shut off power and require re-setup of the Tailgater. For extended use, a portable power generator, power pack or alternative accessory battery is recommended.
Will my Tailgater® work during inclement weather?
Though rare, heavy rain, snow, or dense cloud cover can reduce the satellite signal, which may interrupt your television programming. Your television programming should return as conditions improve.
Can I use a DVR with the Tailgater®?
You can add DVR functionality and the ability to record and pause live TV by attaching your own USB external hard drive to the USB port on the back of the receiver. A one-time $40 service fee will apply. The external hard drive must have its own power supply cable and must be rated between 50 GB minimum and 1 TB maximum.
How do I prevent theft of my Tailgater®?
The Tailgater® can be secured by its carry handle using a padlock and security cable (not included).
Do I need special programming to use my Tailgater®?
No, the Tailgater® antenna allows viewing of any DISH or DishLATINO® programming package. Some channels, including international programming, RTN, local channels and Regional Sports Network(s) are subject to availability based on your geographical location. Bluefield (WV), Lake Charles (LA), Columbia (MS), Springfield (MA), and Providence (RI) markets will not be able to receive SD or HD local channels through a Tailgater solution.
How do I view local channels with my Tailgater®?
Locals are subject to availability based on your geographical location. If you are in the same area as your billing address you will be able to view those locals. However, if you travel outside of that area you can view locals in that area by connecting an over-the-air antenna to your receiver.
Will the Tailgater® work with all DISH receivers?
No. Three DISH receivers are compatible with the Tailgater – ViP 211k, ViP 211 and 411.
Can I use multiple receivers with the Tailgater®?
No. The Tailgater® has a single coaxial connection to support one ViP 211k receiver. However, multiple TVs can be supported with shared viewing. The receiver's audio/video output can be sent to multiple TVs via HDMI, component +audio, composite or coaxial cable.
Can you get HD programming with the Tailgater®?
Yes. The Tailgater® will automatically locate DISH satellites at the 110, 119 and 129 orbital locations to provide access to all available DISH HD programming (based on your programming package).
I live in the Northeast and get my programming from the DISH Eastern arc satellites at 61, 72 and 77 orbital locations. Can I still use the Tailgater®?
Eastern Arc programming (orbital locations 61, 72, 77) is the same as Western Arc programming (orbital locations 110, 119, 129), with the exception of some local, regional and international channels. Western Arc satellites are visible throughout the US; however, the look angle for satellite 129 is lower in the Northeast. Due to the lower look angle, customers may experience difficulty viewing programming from the 129 satellite while in the northeast region. Programming from 110 and 119 should still be available.
How do I connect the Tailgater® to the receiver through my RV?
Most RVs already have an exterior portable satellite input that leads to the main cabinet for TV electronics (where the receiver will go). Simply connect your Tailgater to the exterior input (may be labeled as SAT in port, or Portable SAT in), connect your receiver to the internal electronic cabinet, and plug into your TV. Once you power on the TV and the HD receiver, the Portable Antenna Setup screen should display. If this does not happen, please connect the coaxial cable directly from the Tailgater antenna to your HD receiver.
How long is the set up time for Tailgater®?
Typically, you can start watching TV in less than 15 minutes. Note that the initial set up will take longer, since the receiver requires activation.
